Getting Srila Prabhupada's Mercy
Sastra states that only the most pious and fortunate can take to devotional service. Considering this, a devotee put it to Srila Prabhupada that his disciples were previously almost all wretched, unfortunate and devoid of pious activities. How, then, could they have got the opportunity to serve Krsna? "I have made your pious activities," Srila Prabhupada retorted.
Srila Prabhupada came to spread good fortune to the world. All who came in contact with His Divine Grace were tremendously benefited, even if most of them were not aware of it. His family members, who intimately lived with him for so long, could hardly recognize their great luck. Nor did the crowds in the airports, staid travelers startled out of their drudgery by "Hare Krsna," flowers, bells and shining faces to greet the saffron silk swami. Allen Ginsberg appreciated Srila Prabhupada. So did Sally Agarwal. And the hippies did, at least on some level, as they danced with him in the park. Srila Prabhupada's disciples certainly appreciated him. They shed tears for him, and gave their youth to push on his mission.
Hundreds and thousands of people saw Srila Prabhupada as he moved around the world, and a few even got to speak with him. Even today, millions throughout the world come in contact with Srila Prabhupada through his books and through his movement. All are fortunate, but the really fortunate are those who take advantage of that fortune by surrendering to Srila Prabhupada's instructions.
