On Speaking Strongly in Srila Prabhupada's Service

In ISKCON's early days, Prabhupada was pleased to hear that Alan Watts, an atheistic author popular in the '60s and '70s, became angry when asked to read and review Prabhupada's original Bhagavad-gita manuscript. Prabhupada said: "Our preaching is proved successful when the demons are disturbed." (c.f. My Glorious Master by Bhurijana Dasa p.353)

We must remember that such incidents (as Chand Kazi's objections to sankirtana) took place in the past, five hundred years ago, and the fact that they are still going on indicates that our sankirtana movement is really authorized, for if sankirtana were an insignificant material affair, demons would not object to it. The demons of the time tried to obstruct the sankirtana movement started by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Similar demons are trying to obstruct the sankirtana movement we are executing all over the world, and this proves that our sankirtana movement is still pure and genuine, following in the footsteps of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Adi 17.127 purport

As soon as you become successful, there will be many enemies. That is natural. That is the sign of success. 731103rc.del

Unless there is opposition, it is not genuine. It is not genuine or it is not serious. Opposition must be there. 770109mw.bom

Opposition is our victory. 770109rc.bom

Preaching has to be judged by quality, not just quantity. It is not axiomatically true that the sign of successful preaching is if the public accepts us. Indeed, as seen above, the opposite may be true.

We have not very many followers because we disagree with all rascals. We are not rascals. 730918rc.bom
