Sri Ramachandra Vijayotsava (Dusshera)

Ramacandra Vijayotsava celebrates Lord Ramachandra’s victory over the demon Ravana on the tenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Asvina. This sacred festival honors the triumph of dharma, love, and truth over darkness, and is marked by jubilant celebrations in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu held this festival in the highest esteem, dressing His devotees as monkey soldiers and displaying the ecstatic moods of Hanuman while celebrating Lord Ramachandra’s conquest of Lanka. According to the Caitanya-caritamrita, the Lord manifested transcendental pastimes on this auspicious day, taking a tree branch and mounting the walls of Lanka in jubilant devotion.

This observance became central to the Gaudiya tradition, exemplifying how the divine pastimes of the Supreme Personality of Godhead inspire unalloyed devotional service. In ISKCON centers worldwide, Ramachandra Vijayotsava is celebrated with feasts where devotees chant, dance, take prasadam, and rejoice in the victory of Krishna consciousness.
