Question: Vivekananda, Football, and Eggplant?
I wanted to know what is your view (the Vaishnava view) of Swami Vivekananda's quote that it is better to play football than to read the Bhagavad-gita.
Also, he had a similar view on the Tulasi plant wherein he recommends to grow an eggplant instead.

Answer: Krishna, Bhagavad-gita, and Tulasi
My view, your view, his view--these are all useless speculations. Therefore we must find out what is the view of the supreme authority, Lord Sri Krishna. His view, as revealed perfectly and completely in the Bhagavad-gita, is 100% perfect and complete.
If Swami Vivekananda was saying to play football instead of reading an unauthorized so-called Bhagavad-gita, which teaches that one should not surrender to Krishna, I could not agree with him more. But if he was referring to the actual Bhagavad-gita as it is, which teaches that one should surrender to Krishna, it is better that he should spend his time playing football instead of misguiding the human society by making such inane, insane statements in contradiction to the teachings of Krishna.
Regarding tulasi and eggplant: According to the Bhagavad-gita, if one eats an eggplant without lovingly offering it to Lord Krishna before eating, he is eating only sin. For an offering to be accepted by Krishna it must be accompanied by a tulasi leaf. Therefore one should grow both eggplant and tulasi if he wants to be liberated from sin and attain the spiritual kingdom at the time of death.
Anyone who is ignorant of the Bhagavad-gita's teachings is not qualified to be a spiritual master. If someone does not know how to become liberated from birth and death, how can he guide others to become liberated? It will not be possible. Therefore the Bhagavad-gita advises us to accept as our spiritual master a person who has factually realized the Absolute Truth, not a mental speculator who very proudly gives his own views in defiance of the teachings of Krishna.

The last point is that, there must be no comparison among great people. They teach according to Desa--kala--patra....in bhagavat gita 2nd chapter....means according to location ---time--circumstance.....Desa means not country........In due course of time vedic terminology have been getting misinterpreted all the time.

secondly, u are of the opinion that he is not an indian. I now request you to see vedic cosmology videos which will provide you with an excellent information about the universe and creation. Let me disclose the fact that the whole earth on which we are living is called BHARATA VARSHA. The point is that God personally chose certain locations in our so called "INDIA". I appreciate that you are patriotic, but at the time of death, can your patriotism save u from death. everybody having a material body should leave that material body and the teachings of Sri ramakrishna and vivekananda were universal and not limited to a particular nation. we can never say "HINDU SUN, INDIAN SUN, MUSLIM SUN, HINDU MOON, CHRISTIAN MOON, HINDU WATER, HINDU FIRE"...these are just our outward designations my dear friend and hence i request you to kindly go through the original teachings of vivekananda about the impersonal aspect of GOD as i already studied them. You are correct that great saints take birth to perform great tasks...But are great saints limited to a particular nation ? Swami vivekanada repeatedly said in his teachings that every living entity must be treated with the same love and affection regarding non violence. Swami vivekananda worshipped Durga devi.. U might have known that Durga devi is the sister of Lord Narayana ( krishna). She is Krishna external energy ( sandhini sakti). if u dont accept krishna as God, thats a different aspect, may be you were given a wrong picture of krishna. Please kindly leave off your anger and analyse the answer in a pleasant mood, you will surely develop love towards krishna. We are looking for real love and real happiness. we cant love heat, water, fire, air etc....... because they cant respond...we must love a person...why not try to love God ? All the different forms and energies of God will be either in a fearsome or courageous attitude. If u just see krishna , once, i swear u will end up falling in love with him....So thats krishna's ultimate aspect....LOVE....SUPREME AND ULTIMATE LOVE WE ARE LOOKING FOR BIRTH AFTER BIRTH...WHATS THE DIFFICULTY IN LOVING HIM ?

please accept my respects. I request you that this is not a platform for personal blasphemy.Please control your feelings. It is evident from your response that you certainly love swami vivekananda. If u closely introspect Sankarshan das adhikari's answer, you can find that he is not all blaspheming vivekananda. He is just trying to give a clear cut understanding of the absolute truth by saying that its nearly impossible to understand the absolute truth by going on speculating about the absolute truth.
As you might have read the teachings of swami vivekananda, vivekananda was a strict disciple of Sri Ramakrishna paramahamsa and paramahamsa was always absorbed in mediatation on the personal aspect of God like lord rama. lord krishna etc...Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa also portrayed God as the source of infinite power and infinite light..and he never speculated. At the time of vivekananda, people were not that intelligent enough to catch this particular aspect , so swami vivekananda first inspired people so that at certain point of time, they will come to the absolute platform.
Just as swami Vivekananda accepted a guru ( sri ramakrishna paramahamsa), we must also accept a bonafide guru, that too in the disciplic succession. In this aspect, milk is very pure and if i give it to you, u drink it happily, if a snake touches it, you must discard it as it will be poisonous. Sankarshan das adhikari is cautioning the people not to go after bogus gurus who are always absorbed in their mental speculations, but to get guidance from a bonafide guru.
sankarshan das adhikari analysed the aspects of eggplant and tulasi leaf as an offering to krishna. Srila Prabhupad is adored by millions worldwide for his excellent presentation of the vedic literature without allocating even a nanometer for mental speculation and thats the reason people are realizing krishna. Hence , i request you not to criticize immediately.
Actually, India was under the domination of British empire. He said,' Now, your only religion is to free your nation. For this, we need brave, selfless men who have muscles of iron and nerves of steel. Build your physique. Religion will come afterwards.' So instead of reading Gita, he wanted to make soldiers of us instead of saints.
