- A customer goes to a shopkeeper and asks what is the price of this washing machine. The shopkeeper replies that he doesn’t want to sell his product to this customer. The customer repeats, requests, begs, comes in different forms like in a traditional muslim lady in gurka, but all the time the shopkeeper replies that he doesn’t want to sell his product to this customer. Frustrated with the shopkeeper, the customer finally asks, okay, you need not sell this washing machine to me but kindly tell me why you do not want to sell your product to me. And shopkeeper replies to the customer that every time you are asking me “what is the price of this washing machine”, but I do not have any washing machines in my store at all. You are always pointing out at the Refrigerator and asking the price of washing machine. When your requirement is different and when you don’t know the product of what you are asking the price, then what is the use of replying you?
Here, Maataji was trying to compare peoples’ attitude, perspective on various issues, persons and places. We do not know or do not want to know / see / hear what the actual reality is….. we want to see what we want to see, we want to hear what we want to hear, we want to speak, what we want to speak and make our lives miserable as well as that of others……
