31267188257?profile=RESIZE_584xNepali hydropower foreman Sanjay Sah was rescued on September 4 after surviving nine days trapped inside a tunnel following the devastating floods and landslides along the Trishuli River. During the long ordeal, Sah told those who found him, “I was chanting Hare Krishna mahamantra for the past nine days,” holding on to hope until rescuers reached him.

The 30-year-old foreman said he had remained behind to warn and help other workers escape after learning of the approaching disaster. By the time he attempted to flee, it was too late. Sah and mechanical supervisor Kabir Maharjan were the first workers rescued from tunnels connected to six hydropower projects, where officials believe hundreds of people may remain trapped. Both were taken to an army hospital in Kathmandu for intensive care.

The rescue offered a rare moment of hope amid the catastrophe, which has killed more than 1,200 people in Nepal and left thousands missing or displaced. Read the full report from Reuters for additional details.
