Chaturshloki Bhagavatam - 3/4

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Mathajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This mail is in continuation of the series - "Gurudev Nectar on Chaturshloki Bhagavatam" based on transcription of class given by our beloved spiritual master HDG Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Malaysia on 19th March 1992 in Kaula Lumpur Malaysia.

'The third verse describes the 'acintya-bedhaabhed a tattva'. I leave it to you to read the purports. These purports are really very nice. If we cannot read Srimad Bhagavatam whole cover-to-cover, and you are not reading - I guarantee you. Thats why you have to study and concentrate atleast on these 4 verses and purport. Don't read anything and everything. You will not understand. You just concentrate your attention on these four verses and four purports please and make yourself well-equipped with these four verses and then we will see. Next time when I see you, I will tell you what we can do again. But these seed verses are minimum that we have to do. But we are not doing. Take it from me. We are not reading. There are so many other duties and our mind gives us so many reasons not to do this. But please force the mind to do these four verses and now we go to the last verse

etaavad eva jijnaasyam / tattva-jijnaasunaat manah
anvaya-vyatirekaabh yaam / yat syaat sarvatra sarvadaa

"A person who is searching after the Supreme Absolute Truth, the Personality of Godhead, most certainly search for it up to this, in all circumstances, in all space and time, and both directly and indirectly."

(Gurudev recites the verse, word-to-word and translation and devotees repeat after him). The word sarvatra sarvadaa are very important. Srila Prabhupada has translated it in a very nice way. He was telling all the devotees you know, "Please relieve me from all these administration activities so that I can concentrate on translation. On each word I have to meditate." He has really meditated on each word. Sarvatra means everywhere - normal meaning. But he is giving us original translation - "in all space and time". That is the meaning of sarvatra -"in all space and time" and sarvadaa - "in all circumstances". Please remember these meanings so that you can talk to the public about sarvatra and sarvadaa. Translation by Srila Prabhupada ki Jai! So this is the limit - Vyasa Bhagavan has given us these four verses and upto this we have to do and nothing else. If you can do this, I will really be obliged. We will stop here now - I wish you very nice future with all Krishna conscious activities. Thank you very much for everything and I shall see you sometime in future. If you have any questions or clarifications you can ask now.'

(Devotee asks a question - why are these verses called seed verses and Gurudev gives below reply)

'Brahma is our creator and He is known as svayambhu. The meaning of svayambhu is "born himself." He was not born by material force, as we are all born. "sruti vaataih" is very nice word said in Srimad Bhagavatam - 'na ekatra aasthe sruthi vaataih' - sruthi vaataih means the air of the delivery, when we are born from mother's womb. There is an air pushing us from the mother's womb and because of the air we are forced to come out of the womb. That is sruthi vaataih. We are born by material force - air force. Thats why "Air-force" is known as "air-force" (laughter). Every country has an air-force - you know. Really that's a nice word - 'air-force'. We are all born by air-force. But this Brahma is not born like that. We know, that from navel of Mahavishnu there is a lotus flower and on that lotus flower Brahmaji was born and that's why he is known as Svayambhu. When he was born it was all dark and he didn't know why he is there. On his own he tried to find out what is the reason, why is he there. He couldn't understand for millions of years why he is there. What is the reason? Who created him and why was he created? He was completely blank. So he entered into the stem of the lotus and travelled for millions of years, but still he could not go to the root. He was completely disgusted.

On our own we cannot find out the Lord. That is the mental speculation and we try without fail to find out the Lord with our mental capacity - which completely falls short to go to the Lord.bhaktyaa maam abhijaanaati - Lord can only be found or experienced by bhakti. That is why in every verse, in recitation of the verse we must have bhakti. In reading the purports we must have bhakti. In dealing with each other we must have bhakti. We should be very pleased to see each other and not like an ordinary type you know - hypocrisy. They will smile -"Oh how nice to see you ? how nice to see you ?" and as soon as you step out they will say "Idiot !" This is ordinary people. We are not like that. Our heart is completely pure because of daily contact with the Lord, continuous contact with the Lord, there is no inebrity in our hearts. Because there is no inebrity in heart, our blood system is flowing completely normally. Dirty blood is collected very normally. It comes in contact with oxygen normally. We have plenty of oxygen here. If we are staying at our houses, the room may be 10 by 10. And in that 10 by 10 room and there are so many bodies - wife, children etc. So oxygen available will be less and not pure. If you want to have pure oxygen, good blood system and healthy body, you must come to the temples. That's why our temples are very gorgeous.

Brahma was not able to find out the reason. In the end he didn't know but from the heart he was suggested by the Lord and only one word he could hear -"ta pa" "ta pa". Best word. That was the first word suggested by the Lord -"sphurathi" . Lord did not come personally. But He suggests you. You also. You get the suggestions from the heart. When you act according to His suggestion, your life goes very nicely. But we hardly act according to suggestions of the Supersoul and in the end, the Supersoul may suggest something. Because we don't hear and close our ears, we stop hearing the Supersoul and then we are completely gliding down into the lower species of existence, while in this body. In this body also we behave like a dog and whoever comes in front of us, we bark at him - "Wow wow wow" and that living entity runs away from us. This is what is happening in our life also without hearing the suggestions of caitya guru. 'vasudeva sutam devam kamsa caanoora mardhanam devaki paramaanandam krishnam vande jagat gurum'.

Krishna willing, we shall continue to hear more nectar from Gurudev, in the forthcoming mails.
