Mumbai: ISKCON’s Radha Gopinath Temple, Girgaon Chowpatty, has become the first ISKCON temple globally to receive a“Reverent” rating under Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Green Places of Worship. ISKCON Radha Gopinath temple is the second temple to have received “Reverent” rating by IGBC. Only Siddhivinayak temple is other such temple to receive such certification from IGBC in India.
The award plaque and certificate were handed over on Sunday in Mumbai to ISKCON Spiritual leader, Radhanath Swami Maharaj, founder of Govardhan Eco Village and Radha Gopinath Temple, by urmit Singh Arora, chairman – IGBC Mumbai in presence of Ajay Piramal, Hrishikesh Mafatlal, Kushal Desai, Mangal Prabhat Lodha and other esteem guest.
ISKCON, Radha Gopinath Temple Chowpatty, was acknowledged and rated by IGBC on various parameters like an emphasis on natural light and ventilation in the temple, best hygiene practices implemented, 100% day-lighting, fresh air ventilation, conservation of natural vegetation & bio-diversity in the site campus, preservation of old well to enhance rainwater harvesting, use of steam as source for cooking & hot water requirement also.
Before awarding the “reverent” certification, IGBC also looked at waste segregation at the source and their appropriate disposal, composting of flowers offered for worship, bio-methanation of wet waste generated in the campus, 100% LED lighting in the entire campus and other eco-friendly initiatives like promoting traditional, biodegradable rakhis, diyas, paper and cloth bags etc.
