Recently we had a nice experience of the inconceivable power of Lord Sri Krishna in the form of Hare Krishna Mahamantra. That the Supreme Personality of Godhead is non different form His powerful holy name was experienced here in Sharjah. We have a wonderful devotee family Bhakt Gulati Prabhu and Mataji. They are elderly in their 60’s. Specially Gulati mataji has wonderful faith in Krishna's Holyname. She chants her dedicated 16 rounds daily without fail and rest of the day also she keeps chanting.
On 3rd February Mataji was reporting severe headache and Prabhu gave her some medicines. But pain increased further. Next day she suffered from brain haemorrhage and fell down injuring her head and was bleeding. She was taken to small clinic, where doctors put 6-7 stitches on her head. Then next day CT scan was done and brain haemorrhage was diagnosed. Several brain veins had blood clotting. Doctors advised for a immediate surgery and so on 6th February Mataji underwent a major brain surgery which took around 5 hours. Doctors said that the chance of survival 1 out of 3. By evening condition deteroriated further and she was on life support system (ventilator). Both her family members and devotees chanted Krishna's names and intensively prayed for her. On 8th February, doctor advised the chance of survival is 1 out of 5. Her daughter, Ritu Mataji holding Gulati Mataji's hands chanted Ram Amrt Vani, Holy name of Lord Sri Ramchandra continuously. Lord Krishna was our only hope in that difficult situation.
On 9th February when we celebrated Tirobhav for our dear spiritual Master HDG Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj, the program was also attended by Gulati Prabhu and her daughter. They took some Mahaprasad and tulsi leaves and poured it into Gulati mataji's mouth. On 12th February after 5 days of being unconscious, there was some movements in her right hand, searching for mala (chanting beads). She opened her eyes for some time and signaled that she wants to chant her rounds. This shows her deep faith in Lord's holy name and even in unconscious state (externally) she was very much conscious of Krishna (internally). She was shifted from ICU to normal ward, because some other severe cases came to hospital. She started recovering very fast, she chanted continuously hare Krishna Mahamantra. But the next day they realised that her left hand has been paralyzed because of this attack. On 16th February when we went to visit Mataji in the hospital, we were able to speak to Mataji and we were totally surprised to see the courage, positive frame of mind and her faith in Lord Krishna. Mataji, continuously preached about Krishna consciousness to all those who interacted with her in hospital including all doctors, nurses and fellow patients. She is inviting them all to her house to attend Krishna Conscious programs. Even the surgeon is surprised to see the recovery of Mataji.
Normally when our health fails, we blame Krishna and have a very morose face. But Gulati mataji told with a smile, "Lord Krishna is very smart , He made my left hand paralyze but did not harm the right hand so that I can continuously chant Lord's holy name". She is grateful and thankful to the Lord for allowing her to chant. When we shared this message with HG Swayamspurathy Prabhuji, he said, "The sense organs which are used for Krishna service becomes very powerful." In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 3.2.3 Sukadeva Goswami while glorifies the service attitude of Sri Uddhava as follows.
sa katham sevayaa tasya
kaalena jarasam gatah
prshto vaartaam pratibruyaad
bhartuh paadaav anusmaran
"Uddhava thus served the Lord continually from childhood, and in his old age that attitude of service never slackened. As soon as he was asked about the message of the Lord, he at once remembered all about Him."
Srila Prabhupada in his wonderful purport to above verse says, "Transcendental service to the Lord is not mundane. The service attitude of the devotee gradually increases and never becomes slackened. Generally, in old age a person is allowed retirement from mundane service. But in the transcendental service of the Lord there is no retirement at all; on the contrary, the service attitude increases more and more with the progress of age. In the transcendental service there is no satiation, and therefore there is no retirement. Materially, when a man becomes tired by rendering service in his physical body, he is allowed retirement, but in the transcendental service there is no feeling of fatigue because it is spiritual service and is not on the bodily plane. Service on the bodily plane dwindles as the body grows older, but the spirit is never old, and therefore on the spiritual plane the service is never tiresome."
Indeed Gulati Mataji's sincere faith in Krishna's names, her sadhana and prayers of all devotees is helping her even in this situation. We request all the devotees to continue to pray for her. I hope this incident which I shared will also help us in increasing our faith in Lord Krishna and His wonderful holy name in the form of Mahamantra.
