The best example of material contamination is if you find yourself in this planet and are not self realized, then that is due to material contamination. Material contamination results from the sprit souls contact with matter and being influenced by the modes of matter.
Also anything, action, behaviour, thought whether in the gross or subtle mind that does not render service or incline one to serve the Supreme Personality of God head is a contamination that comes from association with matter hence a material contamination.
Our original consciousness is Krsna consciousness, but through material contamination, that original consciousness due to material contamination is covered with so much rubbish. We have to cleanse it to come back to Krsna Consciousness. Our consciousness is like water, Water is by nature clear and transparent, but sometimes it becomes muddy. If one filters ass the mud out of the water, it again comes to its original clear, transparent state. We are all intimately connected with Krsna but we have forgotten this connection due to MATERIAL CONTAMINATION.In Caitanya-caritamrta [Madhya 22.107] states;
sravanadi-suddha-citte karaye udaya
The I, me, mine concept is a bodily concept whereby one identifies with the body forgetting that they are not this body, (and that they are spirit soul) and thus engage in activities that enhance bodily perception or being in illussion and taking their limited perception as the all in all as related to the physical body and the material world. e.g. I am this body and thus the centre of the universe, this body is me and I have to work so hard to maintain it, and everything relating to this body and everything in this universe is mine not knowing that their is a param isvara Supreme Controller who is Krsna.
