What a treat!

I am referring to the live theatrical production of Mahabharata, a premiere of the company, Why Not? IT was my first time to see a production in the renowned Shaw Theatre at Niagara-on-the-Lake. I've passed by the theatre several times, and on my first walk in ‘96, it was right there at the edge of this iconic picture-perfect town.

What can I say? The performance was stupendous; Everything about it. Thus far, I viewed part one called “Karma.” Part two, “Dharma,” I'm hoping to see this Friday. I loved the set, the acting, and of course, the story, which is something that bhakti yogis are familiar with. It was astonishing to me to see friends I hadn't seen for years in the production. Elora Patnaik, a professional dancer, plays Kunti; and Munish Sharma, whom I introduced to Peter Brooks’ version of The Mahabharata years ago at his home in Regina, plays the role of Bhima. Ravi Jain wrote and directed this masterpiece with Miriam Fernandes as associate director.

While the story becomes a challenge to follow due to numerous names to pin down, for a newcomer, it is nevertheless a great play worthy of embarking on a world tour. It will go to London next, then Australia.

Bravo to the whole crew.

I even met Neil d’Souza who played the part of Krishna. Just incredible teamwork overall.
