Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

After the battle of Kurushetra was over, Bhima had already killed Duryodhana who was the last survivor from the Kauravas. As they were returning back to home camp, Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to step down first. Arjuna declines. Krishna then forced Arjuna to get down first.

When Arjuna stepped down from the chariot, Lord Krishna followed him. As soon as Lord Krishna got down of the chariot, the hanuman flag disappeared and the whole chariot then burnt to ashes.

Arjuna asked Lord Krishna, "my dear Lord, what is all this? Firstly I was bewildered that you asked me to get down first and now when you got down, the chariot burnt down to ashes. Please explain my Lord."

Lord Krishna then replies, "My dear Arjuna, the people who are fighting against you were not some feeble, scrawny personalities. They are great warriors who have celestial weapons. Drona, Kripa, Bhisma and all these other personalities were using celestial weapons from heaven to attack. Each of these weapons could have very easily killed you Arjuna, but because I was sitting on the chariot, you were saved from these attacks. In fact because of my presence these celestial weapons were hitting the chariot instead of you. So if I had stepped down from the chariiot first, then in my absence, the power that stored in this celestial chariot would have burnt you to ashes. Thus, I had asked you to get off first."
