Hare Krishna ,
Please accept my humble obeisance .
All glories To LordShips ,Guru And Gauranga, Jay Srila Prabhupad.
Happy to share something of my own experiences, feelings and heard and learnt of. Thanks for your kind Interest.
It was year the month of April 1998, when I first visited this Dham where lord Vishnu resides in Sleeping Mudra. We had a guide who gave all the explanations and till that time to today, I remember all what he said about this famous deity.
Just to satisfy my quench, in 2003 I revisited this temple and started searching the real truth behind this deity. It was the second time and after that I used to visit it every fortnightly and it continued for 5 years. So I am quite fortunate to have much association of Lord in this temple.
One more reason behind frequent visit was its surrounding and the locality.one can get pure bliss here.
Nevertheless, I used to sit for Hours and sometime sleep there only.
After 2005 I really had a great purpose, one of my cousin brother (Civil engineer) had his project in this locality. And I forcefully selected this area to work with him so that I can visit temple on his expense.
Now let me Share some pastimes
Lord Buddha Nilkantha decorated with National Flower of Nepal- Laliguras.
Origination : Many people proclaim many stories but I’d like to speak out the most authentic one which I had researched on.BuddhaNilkantha literally means Buddha-Nil-Kantha (old blue neck).
Its confusing, “old blue neck” refers to Lord Shiva. Then why do people worship Lord Vishnu here?
The stories goes like this……..
According to our Granthas (Vedic Shastra’s) during the early days of the satyuga lord had fight with rakshas and do sanghar. After the sanghar, Lord resides in Yoha nindra. Same form of Yoga nindra was medidated by his purest Devotee Lord Shiva who visited this place. And so this region is also called ShivPuri. This location lies at the foot Hill of Shivapuri Hill. When Lord shiva was meditating on Lord Vishnu, he obtained Pure bliss and was in happy mood all the time. The same happy and smiling form of Lord Vishnu appeared there as deity. So this is the self-incarnated deity. Since Lord resides there in happy mood he is called Budhanilkantha.
Later a farmer and his wife found the statue of this deity while cultivating their land and hence the lost statue of Lord Narayan was placed in its rightful position.
Deity Form :
The colossal statue of lord Vishnu reclines on a bed of snakes (Ananta or Shesha) that lies in the middle of a small pond(lake). The snake’s 11 hooded heads rise protectively around Narayan’s head. Narayan’s four hands hold the four symbols of Vishnu: a chakra disc (representing the mind), a conch shell (the four elements), a mace (primeval knowledge), and a lotus seed (the moving universe). The pond, in whose center the statue is located, symbolizes the ocean.
This is a sacred shrine of the Vashnavites in the valley. Moreover it proves that Nepal is one of the Holy places of Vaishanvas. Despite the fact that many people are demigod worshippers.
Forehead of the statute is always covered with either cloth or flowers and is forbidden for anyone to see. It is believed that Vishnu sleeps through the four monsoon months and wakes up at the end of the monsoon. During this time, a great festival takes place at Buddha Nilkantha which runs for four days. Worshippers from all around the country gather at this time to celebrate the awakening of Vishnu from his long slumber.
Budhanikantha is a place of pilgrimage for all Hindus and is the scene of great activity at such festivals as Haribondhini Ekadasi and Kartik Poornima. This form of Lord Vishnu is much merciful. He is always in the smiling form It is said that those who takes darshan of Lord after chaturmash on ekadashi day, he is supposed to get Vaikuntha.Vishnu is supposed to sleep through the four monsoon months, waking up at the end of the monsoon. In the month of shrawan, kartik, sukla dwadashi and in the month of Vaisakh big festival is observed and done fasting.
In such a pure place if some one take a holy bath and someone who worship with devotion to Buddha Nilkanth one attains happiness, Bliss and at the end of life attains Vaikuntha.
An unheard but real truth : Since long we believe that King is the Incarnation of Vishnu .One of the Kings on Nepal, King Pratap had a deep belief through a prophetic dream that death would be imminent if the King of Nepal visited the temple. It is through this belief and fear that none of the former Kings of Nepal ever visited the temple. As such being equal to him or part of him ,he cannot visit him.
This also led him to build two other images of the deity which lies at the Balaju Gardens and the Basantapur Durbar Square. And similar image is kept in the Rive side entrance of Pashupati Nath Temple.
Let me disclose this fact that the sons and daughters of Late King Birendra ,studied in Buddhanilkantah School which is 3 min walking distance away from Temple.
During 1997 king Birendra hidingly visited this temple which he was not supposed to do and the consequenes are all well known to all of us. The Royal Family Massacre in 1 June 2001.
I came to know about this fact from the assistance of Head Pujari in 2006.since I was frequent visitor and little close to him, he disclosed it to me. According to him, king visited the temple in the Night and at that time he was fully drunken. No one could object to his dealing at that time. The truthness of this incident solely lies with the Pujari only who narrated me the history.
This thing will remain as unheard history only.
But But …some more things are hidden behind it which I will be disclosing later on.
In year 1991,a big business man of Nepal had met an accident and was in critical condition. His wife used to visit BuddhaNilkanth very often and had firm faith on Lord’s mercy. And so she did aradhana during that fatal period. She says, the life of my Husband is the benediction of BuddhaNilkantha.
In this way many wonderful past times are there. Please continue these types of sharing.
HariBol!!!
Nonetheless Our beautifual ISKCON Temple is located at 11 min walking distance from Buddhanilkantha Temple.
We Pray to Lord BudhdNilkantha for your Blissfull and Devotional service oriented life.
May Lord Bless you all. Please pray for me.
Yours insignificant servant ,
Advaita Chaitanya Das.
