Lessons from a Crane..…
The crane is standing on one leg and looking down into the stream at all the little fish that swim around him. He just waits patiently and lets them pass, absorbed and concentrated in his focus. As soon as the big fish comes, he immediately eats the big fish. He doesn’t concern himself with the little fish.
I am not promoting eating fish, but the lesson behind this is that we should not be concerned with petty things. We should focus on what is really important in our life. The tendency in this world is that we get so distracted and disturbed by petty things which the mind inflates to look very important, and we become so preoccupied.
I remember when I was 29 years old. I was told by a doctor that I was going to die within six months. How many of you have been told you are going to die within six months? When you get that message suddenly things that once seemed important don’t seem very important at all anymore. You really focus on what is important. Somehow or other I am still here. I drank water and ate raw foods for a while and got better. But that is different story.
Like the crane we should be seeking what is really important. When there is a great personality who can inspire us in our devotion we should be very eager to find that person and to grow. And to really put our focus on what is big and important in our lives.
Athato brahma jijnasa - the rare special blessing of human life is that we have the chance to know and love God and to awaken the unlimited, ecstatic nature of the soul which is beyond time.

Love of God is within the heart of everybody of every living being. It simply has to be awakened. jīv jāgo, jīv jāgo, gauracānda bole. The Lord comes to this world with his representatives to teach us this lesson. Wake up wake up, you are sleeping in the lap of illusion. Take the name of the Lord and wake up and really understand and taste the nectar which is within your own heart. That is what is all important and we should orchestrate our life in such a way that we are pursuing the essence.
