LEARN FROM THE GEESE by Bhaktimarga Swami

13539180667?profile=RESIZE_584x One of the first things I do when I come to a new place to reside for a few days is to get around and get to know the neighborhood and establish a good walking route for myself. I ask myself, “Where are the green and quiet spots for God? Solitude? I've been coming for years to Winnipeg, but the current location of the new temple is unknown to me. That's okay. It's part of the adventure. Let's explore.

Catching the horizonal sun beckons two things. One –  it enthuses the chanting of the mantra called Gayatri, and secondly, it pulls you in for that energizing walk with the sun.

Now, the park across the street is usually occupied by a marvellous couple. They are what you call geese. I think they consider this green area to be their home, their domain. Oftentimes you see their kind in great numbers, sometimes thousands at a time, in the sky. In the spring, they fly north. And in the fall, they make their way to warmer regions. There is a real sense of community among the Canada geese.

Speaking of community, I was able to accomplish two visits outside the walk. One of them was at the home of a Sikh community member where a civil marriage was taking place. In fact, I walked in just prior to the priest saying, “You may now kiss!”That gesture reminds me of the geese and many members of the bird species where couples remain bonded for life. No cheating. It is something we humans can learn from, for sure. We can all step up in the realm of dedication and commitment.
