draupadi was a very strong woman
a queen of character, a good human
at the darkest hour, by the hair she was dragged
by a brutish man whose intelligence lagged
in front of an assembly of royals
when bravery knew only withdrawals
he pulled at her blood-stained dress
attempting to augment her distress
leaving her fully dishonoured and exposed
humiliated and devoid of her clothes
heroism lingers in the tales of abundant stories
found in the epic pages of lives in bharat’s glories
in the belly of uttara lie the last of the yadu
fate had it that her child was not yet due
when uttara ran hastily toward krishna divine
her instinct knew her unborn’s life was on the line
sensing that the enemy was targeting her child
a weapon of fire, brahmastra, had run wild
the accuracy level with the aim was high
asvattama, the antagonist, caused her to cry
krishna was the ‘go-to’ as ultimate psychiater
her spirit of self-sacrifice was commendable
“let my life be taken, i am expendable
“what a loss!” was the sound of bereavement
how to consider this pile of corpses an achievement?
grieving women, the likes of the very best
draupadi, kunti, gandhari, viewing those at rest
krishna’s absolute comforting presence
was his expression of deep condolence
including his sensitivity towards enemies’ widows
a model behaviour opening doors and windows
for those of us devoid of kindness and car
krishna stands up for women, children, and those in despair
