This message was given to me on a magnet many years ago from a friend who sold it at her store. It is a cute and funny saying, but never more true for me than at this time. For those of you in anxiety trying to figure out your life mission or calling, take some solace that I am still figuring that out for myself at 67! You can do it at a much younger age than I have. I am learning what I want to do when I grow up, and for me that time is now, and every day thereafter!
I just got pushed out of the nest and I have to fly, or die! We all have our time to flower. The past is over, and useful only to learn from, and today, well, I may die today, so what shall I do to make a difference in my life and that of others? As long as we are growing as a person, we have service to do in our body, in the world, to make as an offering to our conception of Divinity–for me, Radha-Krishna. Conversely, when we stop learning and becoming more as a person, we aren’t truly living.
Although we may believe that when the student is ready the teacher appears, it isn’t always so easy to recognize the form that the teacher/teaching comes in. That requires an openness and ability to not predefine how we are meant to learn, whether through a person, sign, situation, disease—in my case, cancer, and a host of other events that have gotten my attention.
Life is about our relationship with power, how we get it, and how we either share it or hold on to it in fear. We may be willing to help a person financially, but not in a way that they may be in competition with us for what we fearfully perceive as scarce resources. The fear of lack and limitation comes from being focused on the lower 3 chakras which revolve around physical world survival. To be balanced we must have the faith (7th chakra) that when we “seek first the kingdom, all things will be added.”
However, this saying doesn’t mean we neglect our physical embodiment/necessities or use spiritual life as an excuse for not really living here and now to learn our earthly lessons–been there, done that! We have to have a spiritual practice AND also live fully in the world—in it, while knowing we aren’t of it, as a soul. Inner spiritual power is always stronger than material power. Why we live and give is much more important than what we give or how much. Our attitude and intention is who we actually are—our invisible spiritual source of power.
Blaming our lot in life or that of others on karma is easy and often lacks compassion. Yet to learn from our experiences and see them in a positive light is much more difficult and is our real spiritual vision. Holding on to past emotional pain or injuries keeps us stuck in the past and we don’t grow. Blaming life, others, or God, never helps us in healing, nor does bemoaning our fate with, “Why me?” Sometimes our pride and anger keeps us stuck in our sense of self-righteousness.
Only when we decide to seek the higher purpose behind or above our difficulties, can we be truly healed, at peace, and know our purpose. “What God brings you to, God brings you through.” This is my work today, and I believe for all of us. We are called to transform ourselves from trying to exploit the world to obtain our needs for power, to a person who is empowered from within by connection to our Source.
I have realized that I am empowered when I help others to be empowered to fully utilize their gifts to help themselves and others in the world, and to make spiritual progress! Otherwise I tend to be dissatisfied and feel out of alignment. My direction in life is clear, if I can get out of my comfort zone! What about you?
