Devotees at ISKCON’s temple in Caracas, Venezuela, are safe following the powerful earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, causing widespread damage in Caracas and surrounding regions. The twin earthquakes, measured at magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, were among the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century, prompting a state of emergency and extensive rescue and relief efforts across affected areas.
News footage shows significant structural damage, building collapses, and there are over 700 casualties reported to date, particularly in the coastal region of La Guaira and parts of the capital.
“The devotees, Deities, and temple are safe thanks to Krishna,” said Lilanandi-Subhadra Devi Dasi from the ISKCON Venezuela Temple in Caracas. “The situation in Caracas is complicated. A building diagonally across from the temple collapsed completely. Other neighborhoods are also severely affected.”
She added, “We are deeply grateful for the mercy of the Lord and the devotees from all over the world who have kindly offered their prayers and help.”
Devotees worldwide continue to pray for all those affected by the disaster and for the ongoing recovery efforts throughout Venezuela.
