On May 30, 2026, ISKCON Navi Mumbai, one of ISKCON’s largest temples, launched the Holistic Cancer Healing Retreat (HCHR), an initiative supporting cancer patients and caregivers through an integrative healing approach. Inaugurated by the Governor of Maharashtra, the event drew more than 200 cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, marking the launch of a program that combines medical care with emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
The Inspiration
HCHR emerged from the collaboration between Dr. Purushottam Das, Associate Director of the Bhaktivedanta Ayurvedic Healing Research Center at ISKCON Navi Mumbai, and Dr. Vaishnavanghri Sevak Das, Director of Bhaktivedanta College of Vedic Education (BVCE). Combining expertise in cancer science and Vedic education, they sought to address an often-overlooked dimension of healing.
After 15 years in cancer research at ACTREC, Tata Memorial Centre, Washington University School of Medicine, USA, and leading U.S. biotechnology companies, Dr. Purushottam observed that many patients continued to suffer emotionally and spiritually even after successful treatment. “HCHR was not planned in a boardroom,” he said. “It emerged from compassion. Srila Prabhupada’s teaching that the highest service is to relieve suffering at every level of being gave this science its soul.”
