ISKCON Miami, one of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness’s longstanding communities in the United States, is appealing to devotees and supporters worldwide to help revitalize New Naimisaranya Dhama in Coconut Grove, where a new management team is working to restore the aging temple property and expand Krishna conscious outreach throughout South Florida.
Following years of decline and deferred maintenance, the temple has already completed significant repairs and revived regular preaching programs, but urgently needs additional funding, skilled workers, pujaris, and volunteers to address major structural repairs, renovate essential facilities, acquire needed equipment, and prepare the center for a growing congregation and a new phase of service in Miami.

Hot sun filters through groves of coconut and mango trees surrounding New Naimisaranya Dhama. Abundant Tulasi plants flutter in the tropical breeze, while curious locals passing by stop to marvel at the beautiful temple within.
ISKCON has been present in Miami since 1970, moving through several locations over the decades. Now, back near where the movement first began in the city, devotees insist, “This is where Krishna wanted us.”
Surrounded by one of Miami’s most affluent and upscale neighborhoods, the temple sits on prime real estate just a block from CocoWalk, one of Coconut Grove’s most prominent destinations. Golf carts, Mercedes, and BMWs cruise leisurely past the property.
“Oh yeah, that big red building? I walk by there all the time!” passersby often remark.
Here, devotees are rebuilding.
Following a long period of difficulty and decline during the previous decade, the temple has entered a new phase of renewal. Govinda Priya Prabhu, the current Temple President, can often be seen hurrying from one task to another, doing whatever is needed. What began as an initial three-month commitment has now extended to fourteen months of service as President.
“We have a lot of work to do,” he says, “but I know it’s only a matter of time before things really take off here.”
Amid roof leaks, aging structures, and chipping paint, a serene tranquility still pervades the lush tropical gardens. The mercy of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai, Radha Vraja Bihari, and Jagannath, Baladeva, Subadhra Maharani flows unrestrictedly here, blessing all those who lend a hand in Their service.
A large number of major repair projects have already been completed since the new management took over, including temple room and altar restorative cleaning, significant building repairs, remodeled and newly created living spaces, and the installation of new large kitchen appliances.
Preaching programs are also expanding once again. A lively Wednesday night Yoga and Kirtan gathering is now held weekly, while book distribution and Harinamas are steadily increasing.
Regarded as one of the world’s leading travel destinations, and brimming with young adults drawn to yoga, wellness, and more conscious ways of living, Miami offers an extraordinary opportunity for spreading Krishna consciousness in a city dear to Srila Prabhupada.
The Temple’s Current Needs
Yet substantial work remains.
The temple is currently in urgent need of major structural repairs, equipment, and sponsors to address the demands of an aging property and a growing congregation. Because the community became considerably smaller during previous years, local fundraising capacity remains limited, and ISKCON Miami is now reaching out to the wider international devotee community for support.
Among the most pressing projects are:
- Air conditioning for the prasadam and event hall.
- Kitchen and pujari area ceiling renovations.
- Repair of the sinking deity kitchen.
- Replacement of deteriorating wood throughout the property.
- Bathroom repairs and ashram refurbishment.
- Acquisition of a much-needed temple vehicle.
ISKCON Miami graciously invites devotees everywhere to support the temple during this new chapter of revitalization. Donations of any amount are deeply appreciated and can be put to immediate use.
For those wishing to offer service personally, the temple is also seeking pujaris, sevakas, and skilled workers who may be able to assist with the many projects underway. A limited number of spaces for accommodation and prasadam may be available, and in some circumstances additional assistance may be possible.
But the greatest opportunity is the chance to serve, build, and contribute to the revival of one of America’s most promising and exciting fields for Krishna consciousness.
