Participants learn about yoga’s history and spiritual roots at the ISKCON temple.
Editor’s Note: As the world prepares to observe the 12th annual International Day of Yoga on June 21, celebrations are already underway across dozens of countries, bringing together millions of participants in a shared focus on health, mindfulness, and well-being. Established by the United Nations in 2014 after a resolution co-sponsored by a record 177 member states, the observance has grown into a global movement, with events taking place on every continent. This year’s commemorations include a major gathering at United Nations Headquarters in New York on June 18, one at the historic Lorsch Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 14, a large public celebration at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on June 19, and many other locations.
As part of the lead-up to International Day of Yoga 2026, the Consulate General of India in Durban, South Africa, partnered with ISKCON Durban to host a community yoga program at the Sri Sri Radha Radhanath Temple (SSRRT) in Chatsworth, KwaZulu-Natal.
The event brought together community members for a morning of yoga, mantra meditation, and cultural exchange at one of South Africa’s best-known spiritual landmarks. Organized under the International Day of Yoga initiative, which is observed annually on June 21, the program formed part of a wider effort to promote yoga and its benefits across communities worldwide.
Following the event, the Consulate General of India in Durban noted that participants practiced yoga in a tranquil, natural setting while exploring its contribution to physical well-being, mental clarity, and inner harmony.
