NBC’s Channel 5 Texas Today recently featured Kalachandji’s Restaurant at the ISKCON Temple in East Dallas. Host Kristin Dickerson noted that the restaurant is the area’s longest-serving and highest-rated vegetarian restaurant. She remarked, “Kalachandji’s has been feeding the mouths and souls of north Texans for over forty years.”

The first devotees came to Dallas in 1970 and established a preaching center. By late 1971, they purchased the current property (formerly a Christian church) in residential Dallas, and by 1972 the Deities Sri Sri Radha-Kalachandaji were officially installed by Srila Prabhupada himself. The facilities have expanded over the years to include the TKG Academy, community gardens, an event space, and over twenty homes in the neighborhood. Based on festival attendance and other data, it is estimated that there are over 15,000 followers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. This month, the city will host the already sold-out Sadhu Sanga celebration over Memorial Day weekend, which is expected to draw the most devotees yet of its North American offerings.
