Devotees at hundreds of ISKCON centers worldwide gathered on September 4, 2026, to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami, filling temple halls with the rhythms of mridanga and harmonium as hundreds of thousands joined continuous kirtans and midnight abhishek ceremonies. This year’s observance stood out not only for its scale but for the depth of secular appreciation it drew, the record crowds it brought to individual temples, and the reach it achieved through livestreaming technology.
Record Crowds in Seattle, Dublin, and Melbourne
The festival’s growing footprint was evident in the numbers reported from individual centers. ISKCON Seattle drew more than 15,000 people for darshan, making it one of the largest Janmashtami gatherings among ISKCON temples in North America. The celebration continued the following day with a Vyasapuja procession, as devotees carried Srila Prabhupada on a palanquin through the streets in Harinaam Sankirtan, followed by abhishek and offerings described by organizers as “heartfelt offerings of love and gratitude.”
In Ireland, ISKCON Dublin welcomed over 1,000 devotees for an evening that ran from Gaura Aarti, bhajans, and kirtans through a cultural program, a quiz, and an update on the temple’s New Temple Project, before continuing into Laddu Gopal Abhishek, Maha Abhishek, nonstop Harinam, and a midnight Maha Aarati. Organizers called it “a truly unforgettable celebration,” thanking the volunteers and well-wishers who helped make it possible.
In Australia, ISKCON Southeast Melbourne’s celebration at the Cranbourne Racecourse logged more than 7,000 registrations, with devotees and families gathering for darshan, kirtans, abhishek, cultural performances, and prasadam in what organizers described as “a special evening filled with devotion, love and community spirit.”
