What’s this thing about Peterborough. It is a city of more or less 80,000 people. It has a beautiful downtown with that warm Victorian-type of architecture. Two colleges attract students from around the world. Close to my heart in the TraNs Canada Trail running through it next to the Otonabee River.

A major yoga fest has taken place with two hundred attendees in the out-of-doors on an annual basis. That went well until cover set in, however, I’m told there are several groups conducting Kirtan in Peterborough and that is encouraging. In fact, Mahadeva, Annapurna and I were invited to a home for Kirtan lovers. The host is someone  by the name of Rishi, a white Canadian chap. He and his partner, Dana, have maintained a group of long-standing local people who are faithful chanters.

But before we came together for a marvellously successful session, the three of us started a trek and we bumped into Harsh Patel, a 21 year old from Gujarat, who graduated in the field of psychology, helping people in a group home. He joined our crew on our walk. It is an obvious observation of ours that people are displaced. An increasing number of homeless exists wherever I travel. Mental instability is on the rise, so is poverty. People just can’t afford to pay rent. It is a sad situation overall. I give out mantra cards.

Most thrilling was meeting Arun who owns Bhojan Restaurant on George St. . Arun has put out an offer to us to make his new temple a regular stop. That’s generous. On Monday, the mandir or temple opens.
