God is all pervasive, but to understand God we have to first purify ourselves. God has many characteristics, one of them is pavitram – He is the purest of all and in order to understand Him, we also have to become pure; we also have to become free of our contamination. Therefore, we have this process of devotional service. It is a process of purification of the mind, purification of one’s intelligence and purification of the senses. The mind, the intelligence and the senses are all completely corrupted and polluted at the moment. But as you begin the process of executing devotional service, the pollution starts lessening just like when you take medicine, the germs in the body begin to get weak. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is not known to everyone but only to His devotees.
