Each year, the streets of Accra come alive with vibrant kirtan, smiling devotees, and the majestic presence of Lord Jagannatha on His chariot. What began two decades ago as a humble extension of Ghana’s Food for Life initiative has now become a cherished annual celebration of Krishna consciousness, the Accra Rathayatra Festival. At the heart of this journey is Srivas Das, whose spirit of service has shaped the festival’s growth across West Africa.

“I have always been a servant and will remain a servant throughout my life on earth,” Srivas shared, echoing a lesson given to him early in his devotional life by his spiritual master, His Holiness Bhakti Tirtha Swami. “He told me if I wanted to please Krishna and make tangible progress in Krishna consciousness, I must be prepared to serve devotees and should never feel lazy in doing so.”

That instruction became a guiding principle for Srivas, who now serves as Zonal Supervisor for West Africa, a resident initiating guru in Ghana, and a member of numerous ISKCON leadership and educational bodies, including the Bhaktivedanta Academy for Culture and Education and the GBC Deputies. Whether teaching shastric studies in West Africa or the Middle East, or guiding new devotees through their spiritual paths, his focus remains the same: service.
