The North American Institute of Oriental and Classical Studies – NIOS, an Exoteric branch of ISKCON, hosted the Program ¨Building Peace around Ancient Cultures¨ at Mexican Parliament.

Mexico and India, united through culture, music and their love for their neighbor.

The forum “Building Peace around Ancient Cultures “was held in the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro, Chamber of Deputies of the Federal Government in Mexico City, on Thursday March 30th on the auspicious day of Sri Ramanavami.

Organized by the Federal Commission for Culture and Cinematography, chaired by Deputy Carlos Francisco Ortiz Tejeda, together with the Academic and Cultural Delegation of NIOS, with the purpose of strengthening the ties that unite Mexico and India.

NIOS is an educational research institution at the service of ISKCON founded by His Holiness Hanumatpresaka Swami (Prof. Huber H. Robinson) in 2004, and that spreads the Vaishnava culture in Academic and cultural circles in India, North America, South America and Europe.

NIOS Cultural commission, together with the Embassy of India in Mexico, The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) of India and the Maestro Ricardo Martínez Ambassador of Peace took the teachings of A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for the first time to the highest seat of the Mexican Parliament.

Deputy Salvador Caro Cabrera, president of the Mexico-India Friendship Group, thanked the achievement of this meeting, after highlighting NIOS contributions to the science and arts, the studies of oriental and classical philosophies and specially the teachings of A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in the Western world.

 

The forum boarded the different relevant areas of development and the participation of:

* H. H Hanumatpresaka Swami (Prof. Huber H. Robinson) – Founder and General Secretary of NIOS, Vaishnava Leader and Monk, spoke about the work that NIOS has achieved on the field.

* Deputy Alejandro Aguilar Lopez, Secretary of the Federal Commission for Culture and Cinematography, welcomed the commission and the auspicious event.

* Deputy Salvador Caro Cabrera, President of the Mexico-India Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies, share words of appreciation for NIOS and his work spreading the teaching of A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

* Deputy Jose Miguel de la Cruz Lima, Secretary of the Federal Commission for Culture and Cinematography. Appreciated his recent visit to India towards G20.

* Deputy Lidia Pérez Bárcenas, Member of the Mexico-India Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies. Shared her experiences and the richness of Indian culture in her more recent visit to India.

* Deputy Inés Parra Juárez, Member of the Mexico-India Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies. Reinforced the commitment to work for culture promotion.

* Mr. Abhinav Raj, Director of Gurudev Tagore Indian Cultural Centre (ICCR), in Representation of Mr. Pankaj Sharma Ambassador of India in Mexico. Thanked the Chamber for the space to share the richness of Indian Traditions.

* Mr. Ricardo Martinez, orchestra conductor and Founder of Sounds of Peace Musical Society. Spoke on the relevance of Cultural Diplomacy.

* Mr. Alejandro Salazar Rodríguez (Abhirama Thakur Das) – Representative of Cultural relationship of NIOS Hispano America; together with Mr. José Luis Valencia– Consultant of NIOS Mexico and Researcher, UNAM Spoke about the importance of keeping alive ancient traditions.

* Mr. Harilila Das – Consultant of NIOS and Sanskrit Researcher. Shared with the Audience the relevance of Sanskrit in modern world and recited verses from Srimad Bhagavatam.

* Dra. Dolores Chavez (Lalita Gopi Dasi) – Consultant of NIOS Mexico and Researcher, UNAM. Gave the audience an introduction to the theory and practices of Dance Traditions (Odissi).

* Ms. Govinda Ramirez (Govinda Pramodini Dasi) – Representative of NIOS Mexico and Researcher. Called to the collaboration with NIOS in Cultural and ecological projects.

* All program was enlivened with the performance of Shatakshi Goyal – Odissi Dancer, and Sapna Srivas a Kathak Dancer of ICCR.

 

In the concluding words of the Culture Commission was mentioned their openness and enthusiasm to the influence of Vedic Texts and the teachings of A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, definitely a seed on the collective intelligence in those who represent the People of Mexico, a ¨Great start¨ and an invitation to formalize the institutional relationship of the Chamber with NIOS for future collaborations. Dip. Salvador Caro thanked all the presents for their attendance with a warm ¨Hare Krishna¨.

After the Forum, H.H Hanumatpresaka Swami was invited to the main precinct of the San Lazaro Legislative Palace, The Headquarters of the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico, a beautiful building of the architect Pedro Ramirez Vazquez, to receive the seat of Honour, where Maharaja was welcomed by the Vice-Presidents of the Chamber, H.E Dip. Karla Yuritzi Almazan Burgos and H.E Dip. Marcela Guerra Castillo and the entire assembly.
