Govinda Swami: I made a terrible mistake yesterday evening after having experienced nectar at Srila Bhaktisiddhanta’s home.
I came back to my room and read the news of the strife, and death, in Kiev, Ukraine.
I understand that without knowledge of the science of the soul and the soul’s eternal relation to God, life in this world is an blazing fire which ends with our bodies being burned to ashes in the flames of death.
No one; no political party, no regime, no dictator, no fair and just leader, is exempt. We will all be burned in the fire of death.
And then we will all be reborn to again experience the strife.
But the world situation is extremely depressing that the past few years have shown us so many revolutions, people fighting for freedom from oppression, but not knowing what actual freedom is.
Thus, there is suffering, death, death, and more death and one repressive regime replaced by another repressive regime.
And not one person ever becomes free.
We know that Srila Prabhupada was conclusive that all material “isms” will simply fail.
Why, they do not have God at their center.
Consequently they will be fuelled by personal ambition for power and control, as opposed to the spirit of selfless service to God and all of His children.
For the past 22 years I have lived with the people of Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Middle Asia. They are all wonderful people.
To see Europeans being shot dead in the streets brings sadness to the heart.
But upon waking this morning, with a very heavy heart, I found solace in a small book that I was given yesterday.
That book is entitled, “Crying for Krishna.”
It has been written by Kancana-Valli Devi Dasi, a very deep and wonderful vaisnavi. It is a guide on “Harnessing emotions that can help us on our spiritual path.”
It consists of notes and meditations that she compiled over a two year period, in her efforts to improve her depth of dependence on the lotus feet of Lord Krishna through the process of Harinama Sankirtan.
I read it from cover to cover in one sitting.
Each of her mediations, her sutras, her prayers and yearnings, were filled with such a deep and unpretentious hankering for the mercy of God i to become His sincere devotee.
In this current world that is filled with horrors this small book gave me much inspiration.
I will keep it with me and I will read it daily.
I had decided that I would purchase a copy of this book and gift it to my dear friend Sivarama Swami. But in the end of the book I realised that Kancana-Valli is a disciple of Sivarama Maharaja.
I immediately send him a message:
“I have just finished reading the book of your disciple Kancana-Valli Devi Dasi i Crying for Krishna i It is a mine of nectar and she is one of your many good disciples that you can be proud of.”
And he sent me the reply:
“And I am very proud of her.”
Thank you Kancana-Valli for lifting me up from the miserable way I was feeling regarding the strife in Ukraine, Syria, and all the other hells of our current age.
Everyone purchase this small book. Use it as a guide. You will find it truly very wonderful.
And, please, everyone say a prayer to the feet of Lord Krishna, that God consciousness will come to the brains of the so-called useless leaders of this world, that they will stop the killing, displacement, and sufferings of their own people.
And according to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu the greatest prayer prayer to be offered is:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
