Çyämasundara: Can we play the tapes?

Prabhupäda: What?

Çyämasundara: George has brought a tape of those songs like Jaya Jagadéça Hare...

Prabhupäda: Oh.

Çyämasundara: ...other songs that they made...

Prabhupäda: Yes.

Çyämasundara: ...with Ravi.

Prabhupäda: Oh, yes? (Hindi exchange while waiting for tape to play)

(first song – Jaya Jagadéça Hare – about 4 minutes.)

Prabhupäda: Jaya Jagadéça Hare. Very nice.

Çyämasundara: There’s more songs?

Prabhupäda: Huh?

(another piece begins, with flute introduction)

Prabhupäda: Who has played that flute?

Devotees: Hari-prasad (indistinct).

Çyämasundara: About Kåñëa, this song. Ravi wrote this song.

(Song is Indian-style music arrangement with English lyrics. Examples of lyrics:  “Kåñëa where are you?” “I hear your flute,” “Please come wipe my tears”. (see #5 for lyrics))

Prabhupäda: Kåñëa-pyäri?

Devotees: “Pyäri, where are you?”

Prabhupäda: Oh, “Kåñëa where you are?”

(Third piece begins – music background for spoken English lyrics: “Where has my glorious Kåñëa gone, my only love? Without Him I feel so restless. There’s no peace, no joy. Aching for Him, I cry out, but He does not hear. O my cruel love.” Song then continues in Hindi. )

Prabhupäda: This is in Hindi.

Çyämasundara: George has produced this record.

(Another piece begins. English introduction lyrics to string background: “You came to me in my dreams, O my beloved Kåñëa, and whispered such sweet and tender things to me. I awoke startled: Where is my love? Where has He gone, my Kåñëa? Oh, how can I face this night alone?” Song continues in Hindi.)

Prabhupäda: (indistinct)

George Harrison: The Kåñëa song... (music begins with exchange in background between devotee and George)

Çyämasundara: Same Kåñëa song, but it’s in Western style.

Prabhupäda: Oh.

(Music arrangement is Western style, lyrics in English: “I am missing You, O Kåñëa. Where are You? Though I can’t see You, I hear Your flute all around. Please come wipe my tears, and make me smile.)

Çyämasundara: That’s all.

Prabhupäda: The verse,

 

he rädhe vraja-devike ca lalite he nanda-süno kutaù

çré-govardhana-kalpa-pädapa-tale kälindé-vane kutaù

ghoñantäv iti sarvato vraja-pure khedair mahä-vihvalau

vande rüpa-sanätanau raghu-yugau çré jéva-gopälakau

[Ñaò-gosvämy-añöaka 8]

 

All the Gosvämés, they were executing their devotional service in Våndävana, and this is their devotional attitude: he rädhe  O Rädhäräëé; vraja-devike – O the gopés;  he rädhe vraja-devike, he nanda-süno kutaù – O the son of Nanda Mahäräja, Kåñëa, where you are all?

Çyämasundara: Where you are…?

Prabhupäda: All.

Çyämasundara: All.

Prabhupäda: Because Kåñëa is always engaged with the gopés, so the Gosvämés, they are searching, “Now I have come to Våndävana. Where you are?” He nanda-süno kutaù. Kutaù means “Where you are all?” Just like the same thing, “Kåñëa, where You are?” (mild laughter) It is very nice. Vira. Thisbhajana is recommended by Caitanya Mahäprabhu, to feel separation for Kåñëa. That is best motive, to feel separation. The more you feel… So just like Caitanya Mahäprabhu demonstrated, for want of Kåñëa, He was becoming mad, ecstatic. This is Rädhäräëé’s attitude when Kåñëa went to Våndävana, er, Mathurä, leaving the gopés in Våndävana. So Kåñëa knew that “All the gopéswill be overwhelmed on account of My separation,” so He sent Uddhava to pacify them. At that time Rädhäräëé displayed just like mad. So these songs are following the footsteps of Rädhäräëé, feeling the separation of Kåñëa. I think this morning I have explained one verse,

 

ayi déna-dayärdra nätha he

mathurä-nätha kadävalokyase

[Cc. Antya 8.34]

 

So this bhajana in separation of Kåñëa, that is our Gauòéya Vaiñëava philosophy: to feel separation from Kåñëa. Caitanya Mahäprabhu, govinda-viraheëa me.

 

yugäyitaà nimeñeëa

cakñuñä prävåñäyitam

çünyäyitaà jagat sarvaà

govinda-viraheëa me

[Çikñäñöaka verse 7]

 

Yugäyitaà nimeñeëa, “In one moment is appearing to me just like twelve years.” Yugäyitaà nimeñeëa cakñuñä prävåñäyitam, “And tears coming down just like torrents of rain.” Çünyäyitaà jagat sarvaà: “The whole world appears to be vacant.” Why? Govinda-viraheëa me: on account of separation from Govinda. So this bhajana is very perfect bhajana: feeling separation of Kåñëa, “Kåñëa where You are? Kåñëa where You are?” This is our bhajana. It is not that “Kåñëa I have now seen; my business is finished.” No. (laughter) We should always feel separation. That is best. That will advance us in Kåñëa consciousness very nicely. So it is very nicely sung. So always feel separation of Kåñëa. That will make our life very successful in understanding Kåñëa.

George Harrison: I think a lot, a lot of people are gonna hear Kåñëa’s name.

Prabhupäda: What?

George Harrison: A lot of people are gonna hear Kåñëa’s name maybe for the first time, through that song.

Prabhupäda: Yes, yes. But they will be benefited. You have done nice. You are distributing Kåñëa’s name and feeling separation. It will have effect to the people. And Kåñëa name and Kåñëa is not different. Kåñëa is absolute. So when we utter Kåñëa’s name, that means Kåñëa is on my tongue – present. So,atah krs..., uh,

 

näma cintämaëiù kåñëaç

caitanya-rasa-vigrahaù

[Cc. Madhya 17.133]

 

The name cintämaëi, spiritual. Näma cintämaëiù kåñëaç caitanya, full spiritual, conscious. Näma cintämaëiù kåñëaç caitanya-rasa-vigrahaù: the personality of all mellows. Nitya çuddho, nitya çuddha-mukto, abhinnatvän näma-näminoù: there is no difference between the name and the person Kåñëa. There is no difference. Therefore if we chant Kåñëa’s name, especially in vira,in separation, that is the greatest perfection of life.

 

näma cintämaëiù kåñëaç

caitanya-rasa-vigrahaù

pürëaù çuddho nitya-mukto

[Cc. Madhya 17.133]

 

Purna. As Kåñëa is purna,

 

pürëasya pürëam ädäya

pürëam evävaçiñyate

[Éço Invocation]

 

Oà… What is that?

 

pürëam adaù pürëam idaà

pürëät pürëam udacyate

[Éço Invocation]

 

That is the Upaniñad, Éça Upaniñad.

 

pürëasya pürëam ädäya

pürëam evävaçiñyate

[Éço Invocation]

 

So Kåñëa is pürëam. Kåñëa’s name is also pürëam, complete. So chanting Kåñëa’s name, we get complete benefit as by meeting Kåñëa. As by meeting Kåñëa. This will be realized as we go on thinking of Kåñëa. So it is very nice attempt.
