Today 7th Dec 2011, ISKCON KANPUR Distributed two hundreds free Bhagavad Gitas to the Prisoners at Hamirpur district Jail. More than five hundreds prisoners enthusiastically enjoyed Harinam Kirtan and Lectures.65 Km from  Kanpur, Hamirpur is a very beautiful district city situated on the Banks of Yamuna.

After a three hours long drive on an unusually bumpy road we reached the prison to meet Mr S.P Yadav - the superintendent of the Jail. He is a very good devotee of Krishna, regularly chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra and reading Srila Prabhupada's books. He warmly welcomed the devotees and offered fruit prasadam, before we commenced the program. 

In the beginning the skeptic prisoners were hesitating to participate in the Kirtan. But soon after HG Radha Ranjan Prabhu, who organized this program, delivered a friendly talk, rich with practical Krishna Conscious philosophy, then the miracle happened. It began with HG Radha Ranjan Pr who encouraged everyone to participate in the Kirtan lead by HG Sri Charan Prabhu that everyone opened their hearts to the Holy Names of Krishna. HG Sri Charan Prabhu, who with his usually ecstatic style of chanting was so good that everyone soon started dancing in ecstasy. More than four hours the program continued, with Chanting followed by lecture, and then chanting and then lecture and on and on.. Finally all of them started dancing and dancing and yelling the Holy Names of Krishna. The usually grim atmosphere of the Jail, had turned into Golok Vrindavan and everyone was floating in an unlimited ocean of bliss of the Holy Names of Krishna – Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare! If it was not the consideration of time, the prisoners were ready for an eternity of Kirtans! Finally, Mr. S.P Yadav, Deputy Jailor Mr............ and HG Radha Ranjan Prabhu freely distributed hundreds of Bhagvad Gitas to the Prisoners who all gratefully took them and promised to read it. 

The initially reserved prisoners became so much friendly to the devotees that the prisoners didn’t want the devotees to leave. They requested for more of these kind of programs and of course more of the absorbing Kirtans. Seeing the prisoners in such an apperceive spirit even the devotees got amazed! Everyone requested HG Radha Ranjan Prabhu to organize the next jail program soon?

The local TV reporters came to cover the program along with their media crew. The program had a fair coverage for everyone to see Srila Prabhupada’s mercy even in the jail for prisoners at Hamirpur district.
