Fowl And Folks by Bhaktimarga Swami

I stumbled upon this freshwater lake that locals call ‘The Rez’ (short for ‘reservoir’), And it has this well-maintained trail that skirts around it. I was accompanied by birds on this walk. I spotted those striking goldfinches, deep red Cardinals, ducks, geese; most of them appeared as couples in their respective species. My favourite fowl of this morning was the loon coming in for a landing to contact the waters. He went solo, and he made his cool sound before splashing.

It wasn't the birds alone that were my company, but trees as well. Mostly small squirrels and chipmunks inhabit the green giants. It's all so fantastic.

From St. John, Nakula drove us to Sackville where I was switched over to another vehicle destined for New Glasgow. My. Host is Ram Lila, and he has been working hard to build his bhakti community in the area. I was happy to see a steady growth. Two Ukrainian families came for the sangha, and a Sri Lankan family – people from the land of Bharat (India). Let’s Not forget Mariko and family whose background is from Africa with ancestors in the time of slavery in the 1800s.

Ram Lila gives plenty of attention to this yoga instructor. Marika Has been an admirer of Shiva, and more recently, has taken interest in the heroism of Krishna. His affinity lies in both personages. Mariko is a regular on my Gita Chat Zoom sessions. I’m very happy for him. In the morning I was flanked by birds. By evening I was accompanied by those really nice humans, and Marika was the loon amongst them.
