We may say I am practicing spiritual life nicely, I am strong in Sadana, and so I am not envious. But there is a simple formula to judge with whom we are envious and to what to degree.Whom I wouldn’t like to accompany when I am asked to go with? How I feel on someone’s failure and success? How I feel when someone is appreciated or chastised? We have to see what kind of feelings come in our heart. Because we are in material world we have envy within our heart. We have to remove this envy by process of Krishna Consciousness in association of Devotees. As it is said, whatever becomes obstacle in our Sense Gratification, that object of obstacle becomes object of envy for us. Sense Gratification is root cause of envy.In one of the verses of Srimad Bhagavatam it is said, anviksikya shoka mohaudambham mahad upasayayogantarayan maunenahimsam kamady anihayaBy discussing spiritual knowledge one can conquer lamentation and illusion, by serving a great devotee one can become pride less, by keeping silent one can avoid obstacles on the path of mystic yoga, and simply by stopping sense gratification one can conquer envy.Whenever we see envy in our heart, try to find out what sense gratification objects, we are interested in and try to curb those objects. This is first measure we should take.
