On 20th March Sunday, I received a call from Achyut Govind Prabhu’s father that he is vomiting incessantly and did not sleep for the whole day. I arranged for his coming to the hospital again and getting the water in his abdomen tapped out, after discussing thoroughly with Dr.Vineeta. Next day when I visited him he felt better, we had a short kirtan and a small discussion about the final journey and the mercy of the lord. Achyut Govind Prabhu requested, “Can we sing Sacisutashtakam?”. We immediately made arrangements and sang. Everyone relished the singing including a new friend of Achyut Govind Prabhu in the same ward, Mr.Prakash Patet who had been discharged one week back but had come to especially meet him. Then Achyut Govind Prabhu asked, “Can I go to Vrindavan? I want to be in Vrindavan in my last days, live and leave there” This was the fourth time he had requested us. He was the lone earner in the family. Thinking about the various challenges with regards to fulfilling this desire, financial capacity, level of the understanding of the parents, approval of the medical authorities and also his own ability to take the travel, I told him ‘Just pray to the lord and leave it upon him to do the rest and be happy with whatever he offers.
Desiring to go to Vrindavan offers the credits of actually having reached there.’ We were offering him the MP3 Lectures of H.H.Radhanath Swami and H.G.Vishwarup Prabhu at Vrindavan Yatra and also showing him various spiritual dramas performed by the RadhaGopinath devotees in the laptop. Since the news flashed on the web, people all over the world were appreciating the touching story. It was felt that H.G.Achyut Govind P was a special soul A Mr.Desai read the story in Huston and mailed it to his sister Kamini Desai. She was in tears to read the story. She shared it with a Nurse, Mr.Malcolm Fernandes, who happened to offer services to her father at their home. He was overjoyed to read it as he himself had passed out as a nurse from the same institute, Bhaktivedanta Hospital’s Rosalind S Teton School of Nursing Education. He further told her more about the hospital and the services offered there. Kamini being inspired by the whole thing asked if Mr.Rajesh Kadam could call her if she wanted to help H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu. She was further informed about the latest developments. She assured to take full responsibility of his shifting to Vrindavan hospice and his total care till the last. She has bought First Class Air tickets of H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu, and his parents to Delhi scheduled on 30/3/11.
From there the Hospice Ambulance will pick them up and take him straight to Krishna Balram Temple, Vrindavan and then Hospice. His second time admission bills were cleared from the fund raised by many Chowpatty congregation devotees, inspired by H.G.Adikeshav Prabhu, for their new god brother. Later, while taking the Air tickets and the donation from Ms Kamini Desai, at her office, it was learnt that most of her family members are initiated disciples of H.H.TamalKrishna Goswami Maharaj. She herself has met H.H.Radhanath Swami at many occasions. Along with her well established family business, she takes out time to offer sincere, expert services with love and devotion for their lordships. Though she had an important business meeting, yet she spent time with us showing the beautiful magnificient ornaments she made with her own hands for the deities of Aravade temple. As Achyut Govind Prabhu will be going tomorrow to Vrindavan, and may not get an opportunity to thank her and other devotees who supported him, he dictated a letter for each of them separately. On 29th Mar 11, H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu was brought to the hospital. He was in a very bad shape. He had not eaten for days. His IV line was out. He was constipated for days. His BP was abnormal. He was only a skeleton covered with skin. He could not sit as it was difficult to hold the head with a thin neck without muscles. Dr.Vineeta was upset that he had not been taking food appropriately and that she was not even communicated. His going to Vrindavan seemed impossible. We sent message to all the devotees to pray for him. The doctors, even after trying hard, were not getting his veins to inject vitamins and medicines to give him strength, due to thrombosis (thickening/clotting of blood) . And what to talk of the pain Achyut Govind Prabhu was going through. The pain of the disease as well as of the poking of the needles. Finally after three long hours, Dr.Mohan Jha could get the vein and we all(RMO, nurses, ward boys, student nurses, spiritual careassistants) happily, thankfully and instinctively said, “Dr.Mohan Jha Ki Jai”. Feeling embarrassed of showing unofficial emotions in an ICU to their senior doctor, again everyone with subdued emotions maintained official mood, exchanging surreptitious glances at each other. H.G.Achyut Govind prabhu was only concerned about his Vrindavan travel next day. I told him that his health would determine his trip the next day. Next day, H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu was out of pain and felt very healthy. His BP was normal, saturation was good. Before leaving for the airport, he was brought in front of Srila Prabhupada. He offered a flower to him and then met all the staff members. Some temple brahmacharis who had come for health check up, encouraged him and blessed him. He was appearing very happy and enthusiastic. When we reached the Airport, we were told by the airport authorities that they can not allow H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu to travel as it was not mentioned in the doctor’s certificate that he was fit to travel by air in sitting position. I argued, “The doctor has clearly written that the patient is clinically stable that means he can travel by air.
Airport Official: No, we can’t assume that. I argued, “ but you can ask the passenger who has the ticket to go, whether he can take the journey”. Airport official: But, you people are asking for a bed in the plane which involves higher rates and also minimum one day intimation.Confused, I went to H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu and asked whether he can take the journey in sitting position. He said I am not confident, I have not sat for many days now. I said, “then probably the journey will be cancelled.”
Achyut Govind prabhu said, I have to go to Vrindavan. I will try. I will sit. You tell them that I will sit and travel” with a very low confidence, nervously I told the airport authority that our patient will go sitting,you may arrange a wheel chair.” But that was not sufficient, the certificate was incomplete. They required the necessary words, “fit to travel by air in sitting position”. I told her give me your Fax number we will ask our doctor to fax the certificate as required by them. When we called Dr.Vineeta and gave the mobil to the officer to tell the fax number, Dr.Vineeta said, “NO, He can not sit and travel?” The official said to me, “you get the certificate and I will only try not guarantee. The captain is the ultimate authority”. My mind was thinking about many things that could be done to somehow convince the authorities. The most important thing I forgot, To Pray. Ms.Kamini called up and reminded me. Prabhu, I think it is getting difficult to get him on the aircraft, please get the required certificate and please pray. I felt yes, why we have not prayed today when the ambulance started from the hospital? I immediately called everyone, the
relatives of Achyut Govind Prabhu, the Airport Authorities and started Narsing Arati, while Dr.Vineeta was sending the certificate as required. It was all becoming very dramatic and emotional. As we finished the arati, I opened my eyes and I couldn’t believe them. Krishna was giving assurance not to worry. H.H.Bhakticharu Swami Maharaj was standing in front of Achyut Govind Prabhu and enquiring what was the matter. I went up to him and told the whole story of Achyut Govind Prabhu in short and the today’s
difficulty. He gave a compassionate glance at him, garlanded him his own Maha and said, “I will pray for you. Don’t worry”. We were happy like he had already reached Vrindavan. After that Achyut Govind prabhu had a short knap. When it was time for boarding, the fax reached in time. Now only the last test was, “whether H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu would be able to sit or not”
Sister Jyoti had given the necessary three pain killer injections a few minutes back. H.G.Achyut Govind Prabhu was woken up at 12.30pm. with the help of devotees, He got up sat on the wheel chair, and then he was taken in. Every one was moved. The flight reached in time at Delhi. Dr.Avnish Pandey received him and they reached Vrindavan safe. Srila Prabhupad ki Jai.
