Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

In Bhagavad Gita verse 4.39 Lord Krishna says

shraddhaavaal labhate jnaanam / tat-parah samyatendriyah
jnaanam labdhvaa paraam shaantim / acirenaadhigacchati

"A faithful man who is dedicated to transcendental knowledge and who subdues his senses is eligible to achieve such knowledge, and having achieved it he quickly attains the supreme spiritual peace."

There is very nice link between shraddha (faith) and shaanti (peace). When we have faith in God, we will be at peace. On the other hand when we start losing faith in Him, then our peace is also lost. In this regard, recently we came across a nice short-story. Once there was servant who was working for a land-lord. The servant had the habit of always saying, "God's grace" whenever a good or bad thing happens. The servant went to his home-town for vacation. When the vacation period was over, he was about to leave. His mother told him to stay back for few more days and said that she would give some coconuts grown in their garden as a token of gift for the land-lord. Yielding to her request, he stayed back for a few more days. Before leaving, his mother was not able to give coconuts, so she gave grapes which was available with her at that time. The son (servant) took the grapes, saying, "God's grace" and returned to the land-lord's house. When he reached his master's house, the master was very angry with him for coming late. The servant apologised and told him that his mother had sent him some gift. The master was not keen on the gift and in an angry mood he threw the bag of grapes on the servant's face. The servant smiled peacefully and said, "It is God's grace." The master got irritated, "How come I am scolding you and still you are considering it as God's grace?" The servant replied, "My mother intended to give coconuts. But since she couldn't get them, she gave grapes as gift. I was wondering what would have happened to my head if she had sent the coconuts with me! It is God's grace that she sent grapes with me and I am saved".

Our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj used to give this example. "We are all peacefully sitting inside this room, because we have faith that the ceiling will not fall down. But the moment we start losing faith and begin to think that ceiling might fall down any time, then we will become agitated and restless." With agitated mind we can neither be happy nor make any progress. Maharaj made a very powerful statement once, "We have to be always convinced that whatever situation Krishna puts us in, is suitable for us to perform bhakti. If this full trust is there, then Krishna will never cheat us."

Srila Prabhupada says in his purport to BG 2.41, "Faith means unflinching trust in something sublime." That 'sublime' is our sublime relationship with Krishna which is based on the foreground of full knowledge that no matter whatever He does to us, it is for our well-being only. When we always have this full faith in Krishna, that Krishna puts us in situations fully knowing how much we can tolerate and how much we cannot, and whatever He does is perfectly suitable for our devotional service, then we will not be agitated by anything in this world.

Let us pray to the Supreme Lord Krishna to help us to always see His hands in everything and stay peaceful under the shelter of His lotus feet.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das and Sudarshana devi dasi.
