His Grace Durtakarma Dasa, who led the charge in ISKCON against atheistic and materialistic science, has departed this world today, October 14th, 4:45 am PST, at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles, California. After choosing to discontinue life support and, later, artificial nutrition, he received calls from godsiblings and well-wishers. Local devotees gathered at his bedside to chant, perform sankirtana, and reflect on his service, helping him stay focused on Krishna and Srila Prabhupada during this sacred transition.
For more than five decades, Drutakarma Dasa, widely known outside ISKCON as author and researcher Michael A. Cremo, explored the relationship between the Vedic understanding of human origins and consciousness and the prevailing theories of modern science.
Born in 1948 in Schenectady, New York, Cremo developed an early interest in spirituality and questions about human origins. He encountered Krishna consciousness during the early 1970s and joined ISKCON in Washington, D.C., in 1974, becoming an initiated disciple of ISKCON Founder-Acharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
