Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Mathajis,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.
In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.8.41 Srimati Kunti Maharani prays,
atha vishvesha vishvaatman / vishva-murte svakeshu me
sneha-paasham imam chindhi / drdham paandushu vrshnishu
"O Lord of the universe, soul of the universe, O personality of the form of the universe, please, therefore, sever my tie of affection for my kinsmen, the Pandavas and the Vrsnis."
The Pandavas and Vrshnis are both great devotees of the Lord. We might wonder as to why Kunti Matha wants to cut down ties of affection with them. It is indeed a great blessing to have such devoted children like Pandavas and brother like Vasudev. But at the same time, when we become affectionate to some one based on bodily relationship, we start expecting a lot from them. Being the nature of this material world, it is not possible for any living entity to meet the expectations of other person all the time. So when our relatives don't meet our expectations, we unnecessarily waste time lamenting about the same. Instead when we widen our vision and see everyone as devotees, then that is when we are seeing them with real eyes. Usually we identify ourselves as daughter/son of such a person, sister/brother or spouse or mother/father of someone. All these identities are all temporary roles given to us in this life time. Our eternal identity is that we are servant of Supreme Lord. When we engrave this real identity in our hearts then we will no longer feel proud for being related to some-one. Also we should not be complacent in our sadhana just because we are related to some devotee.
In purport to verse 1.15.50 of Srimad Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada says - "When flying an airplane, one cannot take care of other planes. Everyone has to take care of his own plane, and if there is any danger, no other plane can help another in that condition. Similarly, at the end of life, when one has to go back home, back to Godhead, everyone has to take care of himself without help rendered by another. The help is, however, offered on the ground before flying in space. Similarly, the spiritual master, the father, the mother, the relatives, the husband and others can all render help during one's lifetime, but while crossing the sea one has to take care of himself and utilize the instructions formerly received ”.
Krishna is our only shelter and we can depend on Him alone. As our Gurudev Srila Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj says, a devotee asks for three things only to the Lord: ”I should get a sudden death without any prolonged illness (this he asks mainly because he does not want to put others into inconvenience) , I should not depend upon anybody for my life’s needs, and as long as my soul is in this body I should do steady unflinching devotional service unto You.
anaayaasena maranam / vinaa dainyena jivanam
dehi me krpayaa krishna / tvayi me bhaktim acancalaam
Let us remember the instructions of Gurudev, Srila Prabhupada and Kunti Maharani and remember our real identity as servant of Supreme Lord, see everyone else as His part and parcels and engage in devotional service without any feeling of complacency or expectations from others.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das and Sudarshana devi dasi.

Chant,
