Unlike the famed charging bull at the Wall Street in New York, there stood two Gir cows receiving worship and adoration last Sunday morningat the grand Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) building in Mumbai. What was the occasion? The building hosted an unprecedented national conference on the glorious Mother Cow, Bos Indicus, jointly conducted by ISKCON Cow Protection Ministry-India and the Virat Hindustan Sangam (VHS).
The keynote speaker was renowned Indian politician Dr. Subramaniam Swamy. He professed his sincere commitment to offering support in the enactment of a national law, based and backed by the Constitution of India, to give full protective rights to cows in India. Dr. Swamy strongly suggested that all spiritual organizations in India must work together and promote the cause of cow protection. Among other comments, Mr. Sunil Mansinghka ji, from the Go-Vignan Anusandhana Kendra, Nagpur, suggested that ISKCON should become the International Society for Krishna and Cow Consciousness. Union minister of state for Home, Hansraj Ahir suggested that India’s 7 crore hectares of forest land be converted into “cow sanctuaries” on the lines of Project Tiger. “Farmers who wish to abandon old unproductive cows can leave them there. He also proposed that Government could incentivise Chara (Fodder) Banks. A British speaker Alex Hankey equated beef eating to cannibalism. The only Muslim invitee, Mohd Khalid from Malaysia, failed to arrive owing to “passport problems”. Also seated on the dais were Mr. Hrishikesh Mafatlal (renowned industrialist), Mr. Deep Upadhyay (Ambassador from Nepal), HG Govind Prabhu from ISKCON Chowpatty and various goshala owners, who shared their experiences in saving Bos Indicus.
Representatives from the OM Sri Surabhi Campaign, of the ISKCON Daiva Varnasrama Ministry (IDVM-India) were part of a delegation that held high level talks on the need for enhancing cow protection leadership in India. The ISKCON Cow Protection Minister-India, HG Damodar Dulal Prabhu, the North

“If there are meat-eaters, they can kill other animals, but they should not kill the cow. This is, if you want actually perfect society.”
