Each October, ISKCON’s Ministry of Education under the leadership of Tapan Misra Das, organizes “Books Are the Basis” Week, a global program dedicated to strengthening the culture of reading Srila Prabhupada’s books. Approved by the Governing Body Commission (GBC) in 2020, the initiative unites temples, congregations, and individual devotees around a shared vision: that the books of Srila Prabhupada should be among the most widely read spiritual literature in the world, forming the foundation of Krishna consciousness for generations to come.
This year, the Ministry is encouraging devotees to begin preparing well before the observance itself, to make the week one of sustained practice. Through Srila Prabhupada’s books, the Ministry notes, his transcendental vision of guiding sincere seekers toward absolute truth remains as alive today as it was during his own lifetime, continuing to reach readers who never had the opportunity to meet him in person.
