Beneficial Encounters by Bhaktimarga Swami

I was told of a secret entrance to the trail along Governor’s Lake. Anchal and Ambarish, my hosts, hinted, “Go behind Trinity Church and there you will see a worn-out path leading to a small bridge over the creek and there you’ll find the Trans Canada Trail.” I took the advice, hit that path and trekked my way along until meeting Hiren. Now both of us edged forward with japa beads in hand and for that relatively short stretch we met a cyclist originally from Montreal, who stopped.

“This is Hare Krishna?”

“Yes, it is.”

“I haven’t seen you guys around here. I’ve seen you on this trail for the last few days”.

When I mentioned I’m a walker and have done numerous countries, she admitted wanting to do the Camino in Spain, to which I responded that I’ve done sections of this world’s more famous trail near Madrid. She also told us of her past visits to our Montreal temple on Pie IX. It looks like she’s keen to join us at the Chariot Fest which is being promoted on Global T.V. Yes, the word is out.

Hiren and I had a second encounter with a dog sitter. She grew up Catholic but has gone more “eastern” in her spiritual quest. From there we just compared notes regarding the two different approaches to life. She has also been bumping into us daily now since I arrived but instead of just passing by each other with the two canines on leashes, we were destined to talk meaningfully. And that’s one of the reasons for putting on my sandals and being out and about. I want to meet people in an organic way, make friends and eventually hand a mantra to them. The encounter is only beneficial for each of us.
