The most glorious weekend is over. The Chariot Fest has major positive effects on the public. If it is not the sights and sounds of the parade and stage that left impact, then the vibrations of mantra and kindness of Vaishnavas do leave a residual blessing.
There was a sector of society, a sole person, perhaps, who didn’t necessarily agree to all the mercy of Jagannatha. On the day of the parade, Saturday, from the height of a condo residence, eggs plummeted down on the crowd. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured and I’m not sure how many of those zygotes were thrown. A light point to make about the attacker is that obviously he didn’t know that followers of Krishna/Jagannath don’t use or even consume eggs. If they had sent down broccoli, that is something we can cook and offer to the Lord.
Last year we had trouble with pick pockets. This year, it was egg tossers.
The story about the egg attacks did go viral, and what was a molehill became a mountain. Some media outlets presented a story of escalated proportions and labelled it as a terrorist or racist attack. While there is concern over the disrespectful act, some folk perceived defensively that Hindus are once again being victimized. Perhaps there is some truth to this angle of vision. Everyone wants to hear a good news story. Our International Communications Director worldwide, Anuttama, happened to be with us at the Chariot Fest over the weekend and has encouraged a statement to address the aggressive behaviour.
Whenever you try to put on a party, someone will try to crash it.
