Everything was good about the trails I treaded today. Both the BLT trail and the Chain of Lakes trail offered their surprises. Near the Trinity United Church I spotted the first pheasant I’ve seen in 60 years. That was amazing. Lots of friendly walkers I met along the way. Some cyclists were part of the experience. As usual men cycle more whereas women use their legs for striding more. The sun shone. Happy people moving.
After quite the trek, at the end of the trail, I came upon an Atlantic Superstore to seek out a washroom. At the entrance a store rep was giving out free granola bars. There were five in a box. What was generous, five per person of tasty eggless bars. That was my breakfast. I was not near a Vaishnava home or a temple. I sat on some grass, offered them to Krishna, and indulged. Yummy!
From there, I was a little disoriented direction-wise. I like being lost. There’s no adventure without it. I walked up a large parking lot at an Acura car dealership, entered the sales building and saw two women in a large square kiosk. I gave a smile and said, “I’m not here to buy a car. I’m a walker and I’m lost. Can you tell me how to get to Garrison Grounds?” That’s where the Chariot Fest procession was to start. Out came a salesman from the side who offered directions, so I was on my way, after startling the three that I would walk that 5 kilometre distance.
I finally arrived at Garrison for a final rehearsal of our play “Big Fish, Little Fish” and then the parade. I have never seen so much enthusiasm by a bulk of people on the street, and that includes the different levels of VIP government reps. From a circle I asked each one to have their moment in the centre. The whole fest was a hit. The whole day, Jaya Jagannath!
