Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Cueramaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, a transformative vision is taking shape—a vision that not only embodies the spirit of devotion and community but also lays the foundation for a harmonious blend of spiritual and studious living. The New Bahulavana Community, located in Cueramaro, about 200 kilometers east of Guadalajara is on the cusp of completing its majestic ISKCON temple—a testament to the unwavering dedication and perseverance of its founder, Trilokanath Das, and the vibrant community that envelops this burgeoning spiritual oasis.
Cueramaro, translating to “Coat of the Swamps,” carries a rich history steeped in the pre-Columbian era when Guachichil people inhabited the region. Over time, it became dominated by the Purépecha, leaving an indelible mark on the municipality. In the present day, Cueramaro is undergoing a transformation, with the New Bahulavana Community standing as a beacon of spiritual rejuvenation in a world often swayed away from its roots.
The wellspring of the Bahulavana project traces back to the early experiences of Trilokanath Prabhu. Inspired by the joyous devotees he encountered during a festival in 1985, the seed of a dream was planted—to build a temple that radiates the same happiness and devotion. It wasn’t until 2000 that the project began to take shape when he, along with his wife Mohini Rupa Devi Dasi and son Arjuna Das, decided to embark on a journey to Guanajuato.
In ISKCON New’s interview with Nrsimha Kripa Das, director of BBT Mexico and Cueramaro community member, the vision of Bahulavana unfolded, “The vision was to provide a haven for devotees, especially those transitioning from the Brahmachari ashram to Grihastha,” Nrsimha Kripa shared. The farm, according to him, was envisioned as a place where families could continue their spiritual journey, adhering to Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on creating self-sufficient Krishna-conscious communities.
