We are party animals. I’m referring to the devotees who have just enjoyed a two-day festivity. To begin with Saturday brought colours to the lives of the Vancouver area devotees. Literally the colour throws went on at the Burnaby property. It drew new people, according to Vallabha Hari, the master of ceremony for the event.
I personally avoid when the colour powder is about set to go in the air, I happen to like my saffron colour and really don’t care of the tie-dye look. It just doesn’t work for the “man of the cloth” or a monk. Plus, when I see those colours shoot up in the air, I have ambivalent feelings. The beat of the music is dancy and it looks pretty and all of that, but something inside explodes in some sadness.
It reminds me so much of friend, Caru, who brought this colour throw process to the world stage. Well, he died only back in the spring on his way back home from a colour fest. It was a sudden heart attack while driving and that was the end of his body, most unfortunately.
What an innovator he was! And what a saint he was.
With day two, the community enjoyed something special in the form of the “Chariot Feast.” The edge of the Fraser River was the processional venue. It is rather interesting to see so many logs afloat next to us, which reminds me of the origins of the deities of Jagannath. (You can research the story.) I was proud to see our bus tour group presenting their drama again. Vancouver is my last time with them. The buses move forward heading south, while I stay in Canada. No problem!
