A designer bhakt

Designer Sunil Mehra feels it’s not he who creates outfits; it’s through Him that his creations happen. “Lord Krishna helps me design. So, whatever work I do happens through him,” he says. A devotee of Krishna first and a designer later, Sunil prefers to be called a bhakt. He set up Sunil’s Study by Janak in the city way back in 1997 to create a spiritual line of outfits for men. His collection includes a range of sherwanis, angarakhas, suits, robes and kurtas in natural fabrics like linen, cotton and silk. The motifs on the outfits include peacock feathers, Krishna and gopis. His latest collection called Krisna Subah depicts the diverse moods of Lord Krishna and includes a range of salwar kameezs and sarees. The collection also includes linen coats and cut shirts for men.Sunil’s store is a fashion hub where creativity and spiritualism flow together. Here, you’ll find Krishna’s idols as adornments, bhajans played in the backdrop and the fashion assistants dressed in the colour ochre. “I wish to convert the store into Vrindavan,” he says. Interestingly, he happens to be the only fashion designer who organised a Krishna fashion show at the Iskcon Temple. “I visit Vrindavan every Tuesday,” he adds.
