On 8 February 2024, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, attended a commemorative event marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, paying homage to his spiritual achievements, and released a commemorative stamp and coin in his honor.

 

Addressing a large audience of Sannyasis & distinguished guests from India and abroad at the magnificent Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Prime Minister glorified Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati - "Caitanya Mahaprabhu was the touchstone of love for Krishna. He made spirituality and spiritual practice accessible to the masses. He told us that God can be attained not only through renunciation but also through joy. Divine personalities like Caitanya Mahaprabhu keep carrying forward their work in some form or the other as per the time. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada was the embodiment of his resolutions. He played a pivotal role in preserving and spreading the fundamental tenets of the Vaishnava faith. Bhakti is a grand philosophy given by our sages. It is not despair but hope and self-confidence. Bhakti is not fear, it is enthusiasm. It is a joyous moment that the anniversary of Bhaktisiddhanta coincides with the Pran-Pratishtha of Ramlalla. Gaudiya Mission has played a significant role in propagating the teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and the rich spiritual heritage of Vaishnavism across the world, making it the centre of the Hare Krishna Movement."

 

 

The momentous event included uproarious chanting of Hare Krishna kirtana, Harinama Sankirtana by the devotees, a rare short film on Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and loud chants of 'Harbol!' In November 2023, UNESCO included the 150th birth anniversary of "Srimad Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada, philosopher, social reformer and eminent spiritual leader (1874-1937)" in its list of celebration of anniversaries with which UNESCO could be associated in 2024-2025.

 

𝐇𝐇 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐒𝐰𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 - 𝟖 𝐅𝐞𝐛 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: “Today I heard a lecture by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. He was glorifying Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. One thing that Narendra Modi brought up, that every avatara gives a little bhakti, but Lord Caitanya gave out that bhakti very freely! Gauuuuranga!”

 

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the appearance of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupāda. The Gaudiya Mission held an event in Delhi with the Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, as guest speaker.

 

February 29, 2024, is the date of the blessed event, the Vyasapuja of our “Lion Guru”, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupāda. ISKCON temples the world over will be especially glorifying him and seeking his blessings. ISKCON Mayapur is planning a grand three-day celebration.
