This year’s Rathayatra was a joyful and encouraging occasion for devotees throughout Bangladesh. In cities and towns across the country, the sound of kirtan filled the streets as people gathered for the darshan of Lord Jagannatha, Lord Baladeva, and Subhadra Devi.
A total of 128 Rathayatra festivals were organized nationwide. Celebrations took place at every district headquarters and at ISKCON temples and centers throughout Bangladesh. Although each festival reflected the character of its local community, all shared the same devotional spirit as participants accompanied the chariots, chanted the holy names, and received prasada.
The growing attendance was especially heartening. Every festival drew more devotees and visitors than in the previous year, with people from many backgrounds joining the processions and taking part in the celebrations.
Ministers, Members of Parliament, deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, and representatives of political, religious, and social organizations attended programs across the country. Their presence added to the sense that Rathayatra has become an important part of Bangladesh’s religious and cultural life.
