Sankarpur
Shankarpura located on the opposite to Mayapur bank of the Ganges, near the border Rudradvipy. This place is anyhow marked.
Somewhere in this place Shankara acharya took darshan of Lord Chaitania, who stopped here on his journey in India. Bhaktivinod Thakur tells this story in his “Navadwipa dhama mahatma”.
Shankaracharya in Navadwipa
Shankaracharya traveled all around India and was successful in his philosophical disputes. At the time of his journey he reached Navadwipa. Deep in his heart he was a Vaishnav but played a role of a mayavadi. In reality he was the incarnation of Lord Shiva and expertly preached the hidden form of Buddhism. With this goal he came to Navadwipa.
When Shankaracharya came here Lord Gaurachandra mercifully appeared on his dream and talked to him:
“You are My servant. Obeying to My orders, you are preaching the philosophy of mayavadi successfully. But Navadwipa is very dear to Me and there is no place for mayavadi here. Vriddha Shiva and Prauddha Maya according to My orders are distributing concocted interpretation of scriptures but only for those who are envious of My Devotees. In this way I lie to this people. Navadwipa dhama is the abode of My Devotees who are not envious, because of that you do not have to do anything here, go where ever you want. Not to disturb the residents of Navadwipa.
Understanding the truth about Navadwipa, with heart full of devotion Shankara went further.
Rudradwipa Gaudiya Math
In 1905, when Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur arrived to Navadwipa he made a vow to chant 10 milliard of Holy Names. With him he carried the small Deity of Lord Chaitania carved from neem, before Whom he chanted for 9 years (first 4 years he stayed in Yoga Pitha and other 5 in a small hut in the place of Chandrashekhar Acharya’s house). That wonderful Deity of Lord Chaitania is now worshipped in Rudradwipa in Gaudiya Math. This Deity was installed in 1933 when Rudradwipa Gaudiya Math was in Nadia Ghat. But when the flow of Ganges were changed and flooded this place Deities of Gauranga and Radha Krishna were moved here.
