Bata Mangala from outside
Bata Mangala temple is located on the roadside, three kilometers before the entrance to Puri. It is a small temple, reaching only about fifteen feet in height. The deity, four handed form of Devi sitting in the Padmasana posture is very beautiful.
Main deity in Bata Mangala Temple
While traveling to Puri for installation ceremony of deities in Jagannatha temple, Brahma lost his way, and Managla Devi helped showed him to correct path. In oriya language 'Bata' means 'Way', and so because she showed path to Brahma, she known as Bata Mangala. In gratitude for her help, Brahma installed the deity of Devi at this place.
Pilgrims traveling past the temple in vehicle will offer Puja to Bata Mangala Devi for protection during their travels to Puri.
