Alternatives to Plastic Campaign-2015 An initiative of the Green temple committee

On the occasion of World Envirnoment day on June 5th , the Green Temple Committee is launching their  "Alternatives to Plastic" Campaign, in order to discourage the use of Plastic bags and promote the use of cloth bags and paper bags which is both ecofriendly  and also economical. Plastic bags are a great threat to the environment in various ways, also known to be the main cause of the 26/7 deluge which paralysed Mumbai few years back. Plastic bags not only choke the drains but also are  dangerous for cows who inadvertently consume the plastic bags.  In order to make people aware of the dangers of using plastic bags and also to give a eco friendly substitute in using cloth and paper bags we have planned to organize this drive.

These cloth and paper bags will be made by underprivileged women from the city and the villages in order to empower them economically. So by supporting this cause and using these cloth bags you will be helping the environment as well as empowering the underprivileged.

As part of the campaign we will be setting up a stall on sundays in the temple which will have many interesting features such as posters, presentations and also an interactive quiz to check your ECO Temperature.

We would be making a short presentation " Use alternatives to Plastic- Make the World Fantastic!,  on Sunday, 7th June after Sunday feast. We need people to become volunteers for this project. The volunteers will be registered on Sunday and a proper training will be given as to how they can help this cause.  We mainly want to encourage youth volunteers to help in this project. We are also planning attractive prizes for the volunteers who perform well.
