  Maya has two powers.
  

   The first covers us

   and the second throws us down

   into materialistic life.

   When we are covered by maya,

   we lose all power of discrimination,

   and then maya throws us

   into the darkness of ignorance,

   devoid of spiritual knowledge.

   When we wrongly consider ourselves

   to be independent of Krsna,

   we become obsessed

   with enjoying material life,

   and as we grow old,

   we become filled with fear,

   worries and lamentation.

   We are not meant

   to enjoy material life, but

   to engage in devotional life

   in service to Krsna

   in Krsna consciousness.

   This will bring us

   transcendental happiness

   which is on a higher platform

   than material happiness.

  All of the so-called pleasures
  

   of the material world

   become useless to one

   who has achieved

   the mercy of the lotus feet

   of a pure devotee of Krsna.

   By serving a pure devotee,

   we can enter into

   the ocean of eternal happiness

   and experience

   our constitutional position

   as a servant of the Lord.

   The mercy of the pure devotee is unlimited,

   and one who has tasted that mercy

   becomes mad after the lotus feet of Krsna,

   not caring for the so-called material

   happiness or mental speculation.

  As soon as we think,
  

   "This is my personal family,"

   immediately we will see the material world as

   no more than a place for enjoying family life.

   As soon as we are attached to our family,

   false prestige and possessiveness arise.

   Actually, we are all part and parcel of Krsna 

   and therefore, on the spiritual platform,

   related to all other entities.

   This is called Krsna- sambandha or

   the constitutional relationship with Krsna.

   It is not possible to advance to the

   highest stage of spiritual awareness and

   at the same time maintain a petty

   material concept of society,

   friendship and love.

   We should experience all relationships

   on the higher spiritual platform

   of Krsna-sambandha, which means

   seeing everything in relationship to Krsna.

   gratifying the concoctions of the mind,

   causing many types of material desires

   to become prominent, one after another.

   But if we constantly engage in the devotional

   service of Lord Krishna by hearing and chanting

   His transcendental glories with firm faith,

   then we will get relief from the

   harassment of material  desires.
